| The
Social Action and Missions Committee
The Social Action and Missions Committee is
focused on creating an awareness of Christian mission activities and
empowering individuals to become Christians in action through outreach
activities within our church family, our community, and the world.
As Christians, we are challenged to share our
material resources, time, and talents with others. The Social Action &
Missions Committee addresses that challenge by selecting appropriate
recipients for Community Church’s financial support and for providing
opportunities for church members to put our faith in action.
We support local, national and international
organizations and institutions that provide housing for the homeless, food
for the hungry, pastoral and medical care for the sick, resources to lift
people from poverty, educational assistance, basic humanitarian aid to
victims of natural disasters and other worthy causes.
In the past year, Community Church has
supported:
· Back Bay Mission (Biloxi)
· Central Congregational Church (New Orleans)
· Fisher House Foundation (Maryland)
· Habitat for Humanity (Newark);
· Heifer Project International
· Hoffman Homes for Youth (Lancaster, PA)
· Human Needs Food Pantry (Montclair)
· Lancaster Theological Seminary
· Model Motherless Babies Home (Nigeria)
· And others
Community Church also participates in four
annual offerings through the United Church of Christ:
· One Great Hour of Sharing in March;
· Strengthen the Church in June;
· Neighbors in Need in October;
· The Christmas Fund in December.
